On the first weekend of February Louisville Asset Building Coalition (LABC) and its partners will be hosting an "Taxathon". The Taxathon will be a 2-day, 24-hour marathon tax preparation event at the peak of tax season. Free tax preparation is offered by LABC through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program.
Every year, there is a rush of taxpayers at the beginning of the season seeking to claim the Earned Income Tax Credit. These are folks that want to get their refunds back right away and often, due to capacity, we lose them to paid preparers. YOU can help us increase our capacity by joining in on the Taxathon fun!!
We are looking for volunteers to help out with event in several different ways. All volunteer tax preparers must attend a training session in January as well as complete an IRS certification process, but opportunities that do not require training, such as storytelling support and community resource fair guides, are available as well.
