Women In Comedy is here to empower, connect, and advocate for women and girls seeking paid careers in comedy.
In 2017 we are proud to say that with 100% volunteer efforts, generous donations, no operating budget and a lot of passion - we've already been able to launch 4 Women In Comedy chapter cities in NY, LA, Chicago, and DC (and growing). We've successfully implemented dozens of free events to bring hundreds of women together in safe spaces on a shoestring budget, and the work we've been doing to empower, connect, and advocate for women and girls in comedy has been featured in The Washington Post, ELLE Magazine, NY Magazine, The Samantha Bee Show, The Chicago Tribune, Jezebel, Buzzfeed, and more. We even had Maria Bamford donate time as a surprise guest to perform at one of our most recent events in Los Angeles! We are grateful for the momentum, support, and future of what we are building, and we are excited to continue growing this organization while we empower, connect, and advocate for women and girls who want paid careers in comedy.
Now we need your help to make our next project successful. We are launching our inaugural WiCo accelerator program in partnership with 2112 and Satira.
2112 is Chicago’s first business incubator focused on the development of entrepreneurs in music, film/video and creative industry-focused technologies. Satira is an online comedy coaching platform that provides tailored feedback from comedy pros in the art, science, and business of comedy.
THE ACCELERATOR PROGRAM
The WiCo accelerator is a 6 month program providing access to education and community. WiCo will propel you to finally produce that script you've been sitting on. Whether it's been a lack of resources or feeling overwhelmed at getting started - we are here to accelerate your process. The goal of this program is to empower and support funny women to produce their comedic short/pilot script. We select 12 talented women to accelerate their comedic short or comedy pilot script into a produced short film. The graduation of the cohort culminates in a film screening with invited audience and curated industry professionals.
