Oak City Soccer is looking for volunteer buddies to help kids learn to play soccer. Our participants are on the autism spectrum or have sensory processing challenges and range from 2 to 10 years old. Volunteers do not need any soccer experience. Volunteer Buddies with help kids go through drills and activities, encouraging them to keep trying and to help them make new friends. We do passing, trapping, dribbling, and shooting activities. We have two classes on Sundays each lasting 1 hour. We divide the kids into groups based on ages. The 2-5 year olds play from 12-1pm and 6-10 year olds play from 1-2pm.
Our program is only on Sundays from 12-2pm January 14th, 21st, 28th, February 4th, and 11th. Feel free to help out each Sunday, a couple, or just one. Our liability waiver and volunteer registration can be found at http://www.oakcitysoccer.net/volunteer/
No special attire or equipment is needed. We suggest that you wear athletic clothes and closed toed shoes.

Oak City Soccer was founded in April 2016 by an occupational therapist and soccer enthused autism parents to provide a supportive and nurturing place for children to learn and enjoy soccer. We provide specialized soccer instruction for children ages 2 and up with autism or sensory processing challenges in a safe and adaptive environment. We use a volunteer buddy system to provide support and encouragement to our participants throughout the sessions. We customize classes based on age, skill, and assist level needed. We focus on soccer skills as well as coordination, motor planning, social skills, and sportsmanship.
Our goal is to continue providing soccer instruction while cultivating the skills needed to transition into typical leagues. This also includes establishing a modified league to facilitate the transition and ensure optimal success and fun from our participants.
