Grupo Angeles

Purpose : Sibshop Helpers serves as an assistant to the Sibshop Facilitator and execute the programs designed by the collaboration between the Sibshop Coordinator and Sibshop Facilitator. They will be working direct contact with siblings of children with special needs to provide a safe and exciting atmosphere once a month from 10am-2pm


Location : Grupo de Autismo Angeles Office at 401 N Brookhurst St Suite 208 Anaheim, CA


Key Responsibilities :


  • Create a relaxed, recreational setting for incoming siblings
  • Assist Sibshop Facilitators
  • Participate in high energy activities
  • Assist with preparation of materials
  • Prepare lunch
  • Engage with siblings during playtime and discussion
  • Participate in every debrief session
  • Greet and sign in/sign out
  • Other duties as assigned

Length of Appointment : Sibshop Helper serves once a month for three months. After three months, the Sibshop Helper may be reappointed for an additional three months at the discretion of the supervisor. After six months, the person who serves as a permanent volunteer in the Sibshop program


Time Commitment : Once a month (Saturdays) for six hours (9am-3pm) for a minimum of 3 months


Qualifications : Have a working knowledge of the unique concerns and opportunities experienced by brothers and sisters. Have personal or professional experience with people who have special needs with their families. Patience, problem-solving ability, team-player, dependability, and willingness to play


Support : Training for this position will be provided. Also, Sibshop Coordinator will be available for questions and assistance


Age Requirement : 14 years and older


Dress Code : Aggressively casual (must be able to perform high energy activity with the siblings)

Our mission is to target Spanish-Speaking families in Orange County to increase awareness, provide educational programs, and support to families who have children have children with Autism by breaking down the language barrier.

Description

Grupo de Autismo Angeles was founded in 1998 by Jose Luis and Gloria Hernandez. With the help of fellow parents in the same situation as them, they formed the first Spanish-speaking support group, Grupo de Autismo Angeles and today have helped over 500 families. Grupo Angeles primary goals are to increase the awareness and availability of resources, as well as, provide support and educational program for Spanish-speaking families who have children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum disorder. We hold monthly meetings and invite multidisciplinary keynote speakers for our Spanish-speaking families, presenting topics related to Autism Spectrum disorder. We are striving to grow larger in order to reach out to more families, as more children are being diagnosed with Autism each year. Here are some of the programs we offer either for free or low-cost to our families!
