Help adult students learn English grammar, pronunciation and conversational skills. Supervise ESL classroom activities for approximately 20 adult learners and 12-15 volunteer English Coaches. All learners are recently resettled refugees, almost all are Arabic speakers. Familiarity with English is varied. Some beginners, some adults have a little English. Some of our volunteers have teaching experience, others are not teachers but they helped with our pilot ESL program this fall.

Curriculum already set by our Director of Education. All workbooks, materials, and resources available on site. Your job is to coordinate work flow, match learners with volunteer English-speakers (when needed), make sure everyone has properly leveled materials. Adjust/enrich activities where needed. Engage specific learning groups in group mini-lessons as necessary. Help us make it fun!! One student-intern available to help you with administration. Prior experience with adult learners or immigrants helpful. TESOL or related certification highly desirable but not required. Conversational Arabic very helpful.

We are looking for someone to supervise Wednesday evenings. The program also runs Saturdays and Sundays from 4-6pm.

Mission Statement

The mission of Global Emergency Response and Assistance is to protect human rights, and restore the dignity, well-being, and safety of those physically, emotionally, and mentally affected by conflicts. We provide aid and assistance to refugees, new arrivals in host countries, and internally displaced persons. By providing such individuals with immediate relief, supporting their resettlement process, and advocating for their rights, we help support the values of human dignity and human rights.

Description

GERA -- we build lasting relationships with individuals and families in need. We respond to their needs by connecting our newest residents with one another, offering language programs that lead to their social and economic independence, and advocating for their full participation in our communities. We understand that for vulnerable populations, reclaiming dignity and establishing economic independence are equally important outcomes. We’ve grown GERA from the ground up with an inspired team and expert advisors, and with your support, we look forward to reinforcing our programs and welcoming our newest neighbors.
