U.S. Immigrant Café - Call for volunteers to join our media project.

Through multiple media types we will share the stories of immigrants coming to America, their struggles, successes and the food they want to share with all of us.

We are looking for volunteers to help locate immigrants to feature in stories and for content creators to take these immigrant stories and bring them to life.

The overarching mission at U.S. Immigrant Café is to help bridge the divide we are increasingly seeing in America over our immigrant population; we plan to do this through food and by sharing the immigrant story.

We are looking for two volunteer functions, do you fit one or both of them?

  • Do you know of an immigrant who has a compelling story to share? Someone who has faced struggles and overcome them? Someone who is proud of their culture and cuisine and has a favorite recipe or dish from their home country they think is so amazing it should be shared with everyone?
  • Are you a content creator (audio, video, written) with an established audience of followers? Are you in search of a great story to tell with immense freedom (and ownership) over the finished work?

If either or both of these roles sound like something you can help with we'd love to talk to you!

About USIC

Location:

Mission Statement

USIC has two unique missions: 1) To inspire people, especially older adults to volunteer regardless of age or abilities. 2) To share the stories of immigrant restaurateurs and their pursuit of the American Dream.

Description

USIC through our Volunteer Wisdom project will showcase inspirational volunteers in their 80's, 90's and beyond who share their stories of service to their communities. The volunteers will share their wisdom on the topic of volunteerism and how volunteering has contributed to their life satisfaction and longevity. This new project is set to launch later in 2024 as a You Tube channel. Our hope is to inspire others to become engaged in their own communities.

USIC through the Uncle Sam's Immigrant Café website shares the stories of immigrant restaurateurs in pursuit of their American Dream. In depth stories about the immigrants with commentary and photos of the food are included. Our hope is these stories celebrate American diversity... to show that despite our differences we are one country where everyone dreams of a better life.
