Bold Idea is seeking volunteers to serve as curriculum developers during the spring 2018 semester. Candidates should have experience and a strong passion for planning and writing curriculum for out-of-school or in-school learning environments. The Bold Idea curriculum is focused on building computer science and 21st century skills through a project-based learning model. Our programs are offered to students in grades 3-5 in a 10-week course and students in grades 6-8 in a 14-week course. Computer science experience is not required.

Term: One program semester, starting Jan. 2018
Time commitment: About 8-12 hours per week
Location: Remote; occasional in-person meetings at Dallas office

Volunteers should have:

  • An understanding of child learning and development, education or related areas
  • Experience with writing lesson plans, activities, and assessments
  • Familiarity with new learning models such as project-based and individualized learning
  • An understanding of multiple intelligences and learning styles
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

We will depend on mentors to:

  • Work with education director to build weekly session plans for the spring semester
  • Create assessments and measurements that align with program goals
  • Make improvements to current curricula
  • Create a short overview of activities and learning outcomes for monthly parent newsletters
