Shepherd’s Center of Western Fairfax Director (Volunteer)

Shepherd’s Center Western of Western Fairfax County is seeking a dynamic leader to serve as its new Director. This is a volunteer- based position, and the individual will be responsible for coordinating a Volunteer Council and facilitate the coordination of volunteer and client services in the Centreville, Chantilly, Clifton and across western Fairfax County. This position is well-suited to recent retiree looking to make a difference in the community and in the lives of the individuals that the Shepherd’s Center serves-older adults who wish to "age in place."

Shepherd’s Centers are a network of faith communities, civic groups, businesses, local government, and individuals who partner to provide volunteer services help older adults continue to live independently with meaning and purpose to their lives. Opportunities are available for a host of activities including leadership roles within the center to develop new services to benefit the older adults who we help to remain independent in their homes as well as volunteer drivers, office staff and marketing support.

Duties:

  • Serve as ride scheduler and database coordinator
  • Train, supervise, and assist in recruiting volunteer drivers
  • Maintain a log of calls/emails/inquiries
  • Dispatch drive requests and match drivers to client requests as necessary
  • Trouble shoot any problems or issues with regard to clients and volunteers
  • Screen and background check all volunteers who interact with older adults
  • Represent the Shepherd’s Center at functions and meetings as necessary
  • Professional and courteous interpersonal communication
  • Ability and willingness to learn and train others on a web-based database
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Knowledge of community transportation options is a plus
  • Be patient and courteous under all types of circumstances, and maintain a warm, helpful and friendly attitude
  • Understand the limitations experienced by some seniors, such as mobility and hearing/vision loss

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience working with volunteers
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Computer skills - Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet
  • Desire to help older adults
