The Canadian Cancer Society is a national community based organization of volunteers whose mission is the eradication of cancer and the enhancement of quality of life of people living with cancer.

Relay For Life is your chance to help create a world where no one fears cancer. When you, your family, friends and colleagues come together with Canadians in communities across the country for this powerful event, you not only help save more lives through ground-breaking cancer research but also support those living with cancer today.

The Tri-Cities Relay For Life will take place on Saturday, 2 June, 2018

The Canadian Cancer Society is currently seeking outgoing and passionate Community Engagement Committee Members for the 2018 Relay For Life Committee.

Supporting our community outreach initiative focusing on recruitment and event awareness, this ream will work on connecting with schools, community centers, and businesses across the region. It is an excellent way to not only get involved and support the work of the Canadian Cancer Society, but also have the opportunity to further develop your own professional network and enhance your, communication, team leadership, and organizational skills.

We are looking for exciting engagement ideas, an excellent background in team leadership, organization, public communications, and a passion for supporting the work being done at the Canadian Cancer Society.

  • Professional development particularly in event planning, communication, team building
  • Engagement with an exciting and motivated committee and build an event that reflects the interests of your community
  • Contributing to the organization’s vision of creating a world where no Canadian fears cancer
  • Expanding your professional and personal network
  • A sense of accomplishment and involvement upon seeing your committee and your community come together


  • Support outreach to list of businesses, schools, community groups, and other high traffic areas
  • Help in the planning of the Relay For Life street teams and community events
  • Develop clear goals for yourself and communicate progress on an ongoing basis
  • Participate in Volunteer Orientation and Project Debrief


  • Experience in event planning and promotion - especially supporting public outreach
  • Experience in volunteerism, personal or professional fundraising, sales, and/or communications, and event execution
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills including the confidence to provide feedback and guidance

Volunteers must be at least 19 years of age for this position due to the scope of the role and responsibilities.


  • Volunteer Handbook: provided by the Volunteer Engagement team
  • Role-specific training: with the addition of online resources available for review
  • Regular meetings with the Staff Partner and experienced Committee Leads


  • 1-3 hours/week with a higher level of commitment from March to June
  • Regular attendance at monthly committee meetings
  • Attendance at local community events is necessary as well as participation in set-up, logistics and take-down of the event
  • Ability to respond to emails/requests within a reasonable timeframe (12 - 24 hours)
