At least four volunteers are needed at our weekly lectures on Wednesdays from January 10 through March 28, 2018.

The tasks are divided between volunteers and include:

  • Greeting attendees and issuing them tickets when they arrive at the Education Center

  • Receiving tickets in a basket at each door entry of the Education Center Auditorium from attendees before they enter to watch the lecture

  • Counting tickets, writing the totals on a form and submitting the form

Some volunteers will also interact with attendees during a question and answer period that takes place at the end of each lecture by passing a microphone to an audience member who has a question. If you plan to stay for the entire lecture and are willing to pass the microphone to audience members who have questions, then this a good opportunity for you.

The two volunteers who issue tickets will sit at a ticket table, greet attendees, and issue tickets as they enter the Education Center. These volunteers are also responsible for counting the tickets and writing down attendance totals on a form to turn in.

The two volunteers who stand at each door entry with a basket to receive tickets as the attendees enter the Auditorium for the lecture are also responsible for turning the tickets in at the ticket table right before the lecture begins so the tickets can be counted.

The two volunteers who stay for the entire lecture will pass a microphone to attendees during the question and answer period at the end.

Volunteers are to arrive at the Education Center no later than 3:15 pm to greet attendees and ensure tickets are issued as attendees arrive.

Volunteers must be able to stand for a short period of time to receive tickets from attendees entering the Auditorium (for those assigned to this task)

Volunteers must be able to move about the Auditorium in order to pass the microphone to audience members who may have questions at the end of the lecture (for those that stay to watch the lecture and are assigned to this task)

All volunteers may stay to watch the lecture.

FAU's Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute welcomes your enthusiasm, experience and energy as a volunteer.Anyone interested in volunteering may complete the application. Consideration is given to all applications and placement is based on the Institute’s needs which may include short-term and on-going opportunities.
