Underwater grasses are critical to waterway restoration. This participant has finished her grow-out process and is ready to plant at Mason Neck State Park.

About

Join the Chesapeake Bay Foundation for our signature underwater restoration program, Grasses for the Masses!

By attending this workshop, you'll learn all about the Chesapeake Bay and it's pollution problems and solutions--as well as how to grow underwater grasses to protect our waterways. After growing your grasses until May, you'll transplant the plugs into protected restoration sites across the state to benefit local waterways.

Kits require maintenance at least every other day, including replacing the evaporated water and removing an algae.

This program provides an aquarium-style grow kit and seed to grow wild celery, a submerged aquatic plant. Kits are $40 each, and include all materials except light bulbs and construction-grade sand.

More information on the programs innerworkings can be found at www.cbf.org/grasses.

Please register at www.cbf.org/grasses to claim your kit. Registration cannot be completed through VolunteerMatch.

Questions can be directed to Blair Blanchette, bblanchette@cbf.org.
