Saturday Academy ASE Info Session Assistant

Position Description:
The Apprenticeships in Science & Engineering program at Saturday Academy is one of Oregon’s Southwest Washington’s premier summer primer internship opportunities in the STEM fields and is gearing up for another year of internships. Saturday Academy will be hosting info sessions at high schools in the Portland-Metro area this winter where students and parents are invited to a presentation and question/answer session. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about non-profit program coordination and share your passion for education in the STEM fields. If you are passionate about helping youth succeed, and are eager to gain and practice your workplace skills, please join Saturday Academy as an info session assistant!

Responsibilities:

  • Set up event signs around campus that guide attendees to the correct location
  • Arranging chairs and tables for maximum visibility
  • Set up sign-in center and welcome guests
  • Help guests through the sign in process (digital or handwritten)
  • Assist during the presentation by running the power point presentation
  • Event break down and clean up
  • Potential for post event data entry

Qualifications:

  • Detail oriented
  • Positive attitude and willing to take initiative
  • Reliable
  • Effective listening skills
  • Must be able to transport self to and from the event
  • Must be 18 years or older to participate in this opportunity

Saturday Academy strives to engage all motivated young people, including those from under-represented communities, in hands-on, in-depth learning by connecting them to community experts as educators and mentors.

Description

The mission of Saturday Academy is to engage children through in-depth learning so they may become life-long learners. We provide hands-on classes and camps, afterschool programs, accelerated learning programs for talented and gifted students, and a high school apprenticeship program in science and engineering (ASE). Since it was founded in 1983, SA has served over 165,000 students and currently serves approximately 6,000 students each year. SA is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization affiliated with the University of Portland (UP). Instructors need to be experts in their fields so that children see adults as guides to learning and careers.
