Tutoring in Schools in Sonoma County

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: The Volunteer Network of Lake, Mendocino & Sonoma County

Serve in a school near you - tutoring young children in reading. The Schools of Hope program matches volunteers with local children to help them learn to read. In just 30 minutes a week, you can help a child read to succeed.

Less than half of Sonoma County 3rd graders are reading at grade level. You can help by tutoring once a week, in a local school and see the difference in your student's progress. Our goal is 90% reading proficiency by 2020!

Please call 707-528-4485 x 102 or email Mindy Keegan at mkeegan@ncoinc.org for more information.

Description

Make a Difference in Your Community!

The NCO Volunteer Network serves Lake, Mendocino and Sonoma counties by connecting volunteers with opportunities. The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) provides opportunities for people 55 and over to make a difference in their community through volunteer service. RSVP volunteers contribute anywhere from a few to over forty hours a week, serving through schools, day care centers, police departments, hospitals and other nonprofit and public organizations to help meet critical community needs. RSVP offers maximum flexibility and choice to its volunteers. RSVP matches the personal interests and skills of older Americans with opportunities to help solve community problems and offers supplemental insurance while on duty, and on-the-job training from the agency or organization where volunteers are placed.

The Foster Grandparent Program places volunteers 55 and older in schools, to make a direct difference for children in Elementary School. This program also provides a small stipend for low income seniors, who are willing to serve at lease 15 hours per week in local schools.

The Volunteer Network also coordinates the CERT teams for community emergency response and the VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster)
