Become a volunteer coach and help seniors improve balance - and prevent and manage falls. Train as a certified coach for this nationally known, award-winning fall prevention program for older adults.
A Matter of Balance is a series of eight, two-hour classes, led by two volunteer coaches. Coaches lead at least two series within a year after their certification training. Classes are offered throughout Sonoma County. Seniors gain confidence and feel empowered to be active again.
"It is very satisfying when I see participants gain confidence and boost their sense of optimism while having fun with each other. As a coach, I get the same experience!"

Description
Make a Difference in Your Community!
The NCO Volunteer Network serves Lake, Mendocino and Sonoma counties by connecting volunteers with opportunities. The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) provides opportunities for people 55 and over to make a difference in their community through volunteer service. RSVP volunteers contribute anywhere from a few to over forty hours a week, serving through schools, day care centers, police departments, hospitals and other nonprofit and public organizations to help meet critical community needs. RSVP offers maximum flexibility and choice to its volunteers. RSVP matches the personal interests and skills of older Americans with opportunities to help solve community problems and offers supplemental insurance while on duty, and on-the-job training from the agency or organization where volunteers are placed.
The Foster Grandparent Program places volunteers 55 and older in schools, to make a direct difference for children in Elementary School. This program also provides a small stipend for low income seniors, who are willing to serve at lease 15 hours per week in local schools.
The Volunteer Network also coordinates the CERT teams for community emergency response and the VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster)
