Acta Non Verba is looking for a motivated, detail-oriented person to work part-time as a Farm Intern. The Farm Intern will work directly with the Farm Manager to develop and implement the crop plan for our quarter-acre plot in addition to maintaining the garden.
Interns will have an opportunity to learn and practice crop management, natural & integrated pest management, landscape management & maintenance, basic carpentry, ecology, resource reclamation, and more!
Weekly tasks on the farm include:
- Watering crops
- Repairing minor damages to fences and raised beds
- Removing trash
- Flipping the compost pile
- Planting and harvesting crops
- Collecting and cataloging seeds
- Fertilizing crops
- Pulling weeds
- Addressing and managing pests such as aphids and snails
- Welcoming and assisting community members wanting to participate on the farm
- Assist with developing and implementing the planting plan
- Any projects interns want to plan and execute to benefit the farm, community, or organization...
Recommended time commitment is 4 hours per week. We ask that all candidates commit to regular, weekly shifts to familiarize themselves with the farm and to ensure there is a mutual exchange of knowledge. We aim to help you explore new ideas and gain skills while learning from you as well.
While we will prioritize candidates who have relevant experience, we are also excited about folks with limited experience but who are eager to learn, passionate about our work, reliable, and able to make a 3 - 6 month commitment. Working with Acta Non Verba is an opportunity to grow, be creative, wear many hats, and be a part of a fun team and community working to build a movement to elevate life in the inner city by challenging oppressive dynamics and environments through urban farming . We hope you'll join us!
