Training for tutors in the Read to Learn Adult Literacy/Volunteer Program consists of a full day of workshops for new tutors or 2 hours of professional development for returning tutors. All training is free.
This training is for volunteers who wish to tutor an individual adult to improve their reading and writing skills. Tutors and learners meet once a week for a 10-week semester. Lesson plans and instructional materials are provided and Site Supervisors are always available to provide support.

Mission Statement
The mission of the District 214 Community Education Read to Learn Adult Literacy/Volunteer program is to improve the quality of life for those adults living in the northwest suburbs of Chicago who read and write English below the ninth grade level.
Description
Read to Learn is a free, volunteer-based program that works to raise the literacy level of adults who read and write below the ninth grade level. The program matches adult learners with trained volunteers who tutor them once a week at convenient locations throughout the northwest suburbs. Individualized lesson plans and instructional materials are provided for each student by professional adult educators.
