LifeMoves is seeking 10 summer interns to serve as Summer Camp Program Leads at 5 Achieving Career and Educational Success (ACES) program sites (2 per site):

Summer Camp Background:
We are looking for 10 dynamic and enthusiastic Summer Camp Program Leads to launch and manage LifeMoves ACES Summer Adventure Camp, a day camp for homeless children in LifeMoves shelters. Learn more about LifeMoves here.
LifeMoves Summer Adventure Camp provides homeless children living in shelters with an engaging, fun, and educational summer experience. Summer Camp is an important component of the LifeMoves model of comprehensive supportive services and the organization’s mission to help families break the cycle of homelessness and return to self-sufficiency. By providing opportunities that homeless children might not otherwise have access to, Summer Camp supports each child’s growth and education, while allowing parents to focus on work, employment opportunities, and securing permanent housing during the summer months.
Four of LifeMoves’ family shelters and one permanent supportive housing facility operate ACES Summer Adventure Camp for school-aged children, ages 5-14. Camp activities are organized around weekly themes, such as outer space, sports, environmental sustainability, technology, and art. Activities and field trips are designed to provide children with a range of educational opportunities and highlight new skills and career paths. Time Commitment:
- June 11 th - August 17 th
o Week 1 is orientation and training for all interns (June 11 th-15 th)
o Weeks 2-8 are ACES Summer Adventure Camp (June 18 th-August 3 rd)
o Weeks 9 and10 are optional and will include additional projects (August 6 th-17 th)
- Monday - Friday, 8am to 4pm
Responsibilities Include:
- Plan and oversee camp activities that center on STEAM topics. Create a safe, engaging, and trauma-informed learning environment for ACES Summer Adventure Campers
- Manage a revolving staff of 5-15 high school aged volunteers both on-site and on weekly field trips
- Provide weekly onboarding and training for summer camp counselors
- Provide structure, guidance, and learning objectives for weekly field trips
- Oversee organization and distribution of daily meal program
- Collaborate with LifeMoves’ Marketing team to create an ACES Summer Adventure Camp blog that is distributed to an audience of parents, donors, and supporters
- Respond quickly and calmly to any emergency or crisis at ACES Summer Adventure Camp
- Collect and report quantitative and qualitative program evaluation data
Position Requirements/Preferred Skills:
- HS Diploma and some college
- Experience working with school-aged children
- Leadership experience amongst peers
- Creative planning and activity design, with excellent follow through
- Ability to work collaboratively and professionally with volunteers, donors, vendors, and clients
- Pro-active self-starter, ability to work independently
- Ability to enforce rules to keep children safe
- Diligent work ethic, positive attitude, and a desire to learn about LifeMoves’ mission of ending homelessness
Learning Outcomes:
- Leadership experience, managing all aspects of a summer camp environment
- Experience designing and implementing programming for homeless children
- Insight into the needs of homeless children
- Exposure to senior staff and the operations of a leading nonprofit organization
- Networking opportunities for career development
- CPR and crisis management training
