CROSO

Are you passionate about education? Are you passionate about creating opportunities for individuals to access resources? Are you passionate about encouraging voices typically excluded from leadership to have a seat at the table? Are you passionate about participating in the global community? This might be an excellent opportunity for you!

CROSO is seeking individuals with knowledge of fundraising principles and practices, including major gifts, planned giving, and grant writing to join our Development Committee. Development Committee members will work collaboratively with CROSO's executive director to develop and implement fundraising strategies and activities to support CROSO's goal of ensuring a brighter future for former street children in Uganda through higher education. CROSO has a budget of $200K and only two staff members, so committee members have an opportunity to make a substantial contribution.

Expectations:

  • Attend regular Development Committee meetings, contribute to discussions, and help develop and implement fundraising strategies and activities.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of an annual fundraising plan that aligns with the organization's strategic plan and fundraising goals.
  • Work with the executive director to identify and cultivate relationships with individual, corporate, and foundation donors and prospects.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of fundraising events, campaigns, and initiatives, including solicitation materials, donor recognition, and stewardship activities.
  • Participate in prospect research and donor database management to identify and track potential donors and their giving history.
  • Help develop and implement strategies for donor engagement and retention, including regular communication and updates to donors and stakeholders.
  • Provide input and feedback on fundraising strategies and activities to ensure they align with the organization's mission and values.
  • Maintain confidentiality of donor information and adhere to ethical standards.

More about CROSO:

CROSO is dedicated to making possible the transformation of Ugandan communities by providing post-secondary education scholarships to former street children in Uganda.

We believe providing our scholars with access to higher education gives them the tools to provide for themselves and their families for the rest of their lives. Our scholarship is unique in that our scholars can study at any post-secondary institution in Uganda (university, college or technical school) and can pursue a course that is specific to their skills, talents and dreams. Armed with the academic skills, career skills (learned through their internships) and a new professional network, our graduates have the ability to become leaders in their communities!

Mission Statement

CROSO is dedicated to making possible the transformation of Ugandan communities by providing post-secondary education scholarships to former street children in Uganda.

Description

Started in 2007, CROSO was created to meet the needs of former street children in Uganda who had been accepted into post-secondary institutions, but lacked funding to enroll. CROSO initially sponsored one college student and has since grown to our current status of supporting 16 Scholars in college and we have seen an additional 16 CROSO Scholars already graduate.

CROSO provides post-secondary scholarships to former street children in Uganda. Because our Scholars are all former street children, our scholarships cover more than tuition. We also provide housing, food, supplies, transportation and a laptop for each Scholar. We also pair each Scholar with a Liaison (mentor) who communicates monthly. CROSO is based in the Chicago-land area, but welcomes remote participation on several of our committees.
