Are you interested in helping older adults be able to continue to live independently in their homes and feel connected to the community they live in? If so, we would love to have you be a vital part of our organization. WiseUp needs a volunteer driver to provide transportation for doctor appointments, grocery shopping or other errands.

What do you need?If you own or have regular access to a safe, reliable vehicle, then you’re already on the road to volunteering. You’ll also need:

  • A current, valid driver’s license
  • Proof of adequate automobile insurance
  • Participate in an in-person interview
  • To clear a background check performed
  • Complete WiseUp training (based on your availability)
  • Have driving availability during the day, ideally Monday - Friday

Flexible Scheduling -We are so appreciative of our volunteers and we understand scheduling can be tricky sometimes. To that end, we work around you. You will only have to accept the driving opportunities which work with your schedule. You can commit to a regular weekly driving commitment or choose to pick-up opportunities as they come up.

What is our organization all about? WiseUp, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, is a part of the growing nationwide "village" movement designed to support older adults in living independently in their homes. WiseUp’s mission is to help members feel like they are connected, active, contributing members of their community.

About WiseUp - Aging with Attitude

Mission Statement

WiseUp provides support and connections to each other as they age, so that they can remain active, vital, and contributing members of our communities.

WiseUp is the local face of a national movement: a consumer-driven model helping older adults stay in their homes as they age. In communities across the country, independent-minded adults have joined together to form organizations-typically called "Villages"-that help them to realize this goal. Today there are about 200 Villages nationwide, with dozens more on the horizon.

WiseUp, founded by Evanston residents, is modeled on one of the most successful of these communities, Boston's Beacon Hill Village. WiseUp has expanded to include the surrounding communities of Chicago, Skokie, Wilmette, Winnetka, Glenview, and Northbrook.

We'll work with your schedule.
