Supporting the 96 Elephants Campaign
As a WCS Now Interpreter volunteer you may engage visitors in a campaign that are designed to inspire conservation action! Here, Discovery Guides inspire awareness about Elephant conservation in visitors and collect petition signatures to help protect them.

We are currently recruiting adult volunteers (21+) for Spring 2018! Applicants will be invited to an information session and group interview in January or February.

We have many different ways you can participate in our volunteer program. Our volunteer specialties offer something for everyone:

AMBASSADOR

Our Ambassadors have the important role of greeting zoo visitors, helping them to find their way, and sharing "what’s happening today!" (2 day training, 8+ hour a month commitment)

WCS NOW

Our WCS Now Interpreters facilitate interactive, conservation based activities around the zoo. For this role, we are looking for volunteers that are committed to sharing the WCS mission and message, are outgoing and approachable, are comfortable interacting with large groups, and are eager to learn and try new things. (6 day training, plus online courses, 12+ hour a month commitment)

EXPEDITION LEADER

Expedition Leaders at the Bronx Zoo lead inquiry-based tours for school children, private groups, families, or other pre-registered participants. If you have a passion for engaging people in observation and critical thinking, are an excellent listener with a strong interest in inquiry, are comfortable managing groups of all sizes, and have a commitment to teaching in response to learner feedback-the Expedition Leader role would be a great fit for you! (*Now Interpreter training a prerequisite, 2 day training, 12+ hour a month commitment)

PLAY PARTNER

As a Play Partner, you will facilitate nature play based activities in our new Nature Trek exhibit, as well as alongside our Conservation Educators and Fellows during Nature Club events and meetings. If you enjoy spending time outside and embracing all the elements, consider becoming a Play Partner volunteer! (1 day training, 12+ hour a month commitment)

EDUCATION ASSISTANT

As an Education Assistant, you may greet groups as they arrive to the zoo and guide them to their classrooms, provide support to our Conservation Educators during programs or activities, or assist with family programs, birthday parties, or summer camps! (2 day training, 12 + hours a month commitment).

ON-CALL EVENT SUPPORT

If you’re interested in volunteering at the Bronx Zoo, but have limited time to commit, consider joining us as an On-Call Event Support Volunteer! You’ll be called upon to help with special events throughout the year. (Online training, 1-2 events per year)
