Point In Time Overnight Count - Dunn County, West Central Wisconsin

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: West CAP

  • 2 people are interested

Help us put a number to the amount of homeless in West Central Wisconsin. Volunteers would cover an area in Dunn County between 11 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 24, 2018. Training can be provided.

The Point in Time is a national count of homeless in the area during that given night. It can take anywhere from 1 hour to 4 hours to cover your area which would include looking in public areas like parks, parking lots, camp sites, down town areas, Walmart, bridges etc. If a homeless family or person is found, an interview is requested along with completing some paperwork on the interview. These found people are then offered a personnel hygiene item bag to help through their journey.

We will take as many volunteers as possible. People need to go in groups of 2 or more. At least one Volunteer needs to be 18 years old per group.

overview of point in time activityWHAT
A Point-In-Time, or PIT, count is a statistically reliable, unduplicated count of people experiencing homelessness during a designated one-night period. Wisconsin conducts this count twice per year.

WHEN-January 2018 PIT dates and times
  • Overnight Street Count/Known Location Count Start:
    • No earlier than 11:00 pm on Wednesday, January 24, 2018
  • Overnight Street Count/Known Location Count End:
    • No later than 6:00 am on Thursday, January 25, 2018
WHY
A PIT is intended to capture a minimum amount of information on the homeless population in order to create a "snapshot" of what homelessness looks like in a neighborhood, city, or state. The data collected through the Point-in-Time process is reported in the Annual Homelessness Assessment Report (AHAR) that is provided to the U.S. Congress. Homeless information is also reported to the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development, and is utilized to develop the Housing Inventory Chart for the Balance of State Continuum of Care.

WHO
This count is intended to include persons that are homeless and are living in emergency shelters, transitional housing, safe havens for the homeless, domestic violence shelters, or who are unsheltered living on the streets or any other place not mean for human habitation.
