Our fourth graders at Reid Park Elementary are in need of some extra help with their math skills! We are looking for volunteers who can serve as math tutors. Many of the students are a little bit behind grade level, so you would most likely be working at a third grade level of math (learning multiplication & division, measuring perimeter, developing an understanding of fractions).

We are looking for someone who is consistent and can commit to tutoring weekly throughout the semester. We can discuss scheduling. Please contact Yeeva Cheng at ycheng@cischarlotte.org or Annette Abrams at aabrams@cischarlotte.org.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to surround students with a community of support empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.

Description

Please Note: We typically do not have access to students over the summer months; therefore, individual volunteer placements for School/Reading Buddies, Tutors, or Mentors are made from September through the end of March each school year. While you may complete our Volunteer Interest Form at any time, please keep this Sept-March timeframe in mind if you are interested in one of these volunteer roles that is matched to an individual student

Communities In Schools believes all students deserve five basic resources: A one-on-one relationship with a caring adult; A safe place to learn and grow; A healthy start and a healthy future; A marketable skill to use upon graduation; A chance to give back to peers and the community. Communities In Schools is part of the nation's largest stay-in-school network helping young people continue their education. Some of the challenges students face include family conflict, poor self esteem, drug and alcohol abuse, juvenile crime, illiteracy, poor health, and teen pregnancy.
