ORGANIZATION: ASSIST Sheffield

ASSIST is governed by a Board of Trustees who meet monthly, to oversee the work of the organisation. The board has three subcommittees with responsibility for Finance, HR and External Relations. These subcommittees meet as required with the current frequency being once per six weeks per committee.


Role purpose

  • To act as minutes secretary to the Trustee Subcommittees.

Tasks

  • Attend fortnightly subcommittee meetings (maximum 3 hours) and take concise and accurate minutes.
  • Record the discussions and the relevant actions to be taken, by whom and the target date(s) for each.
  • Circulate minutes to all the relevant trustees within 3 days of the meetings
  • Keep track of items carried forward and deferred

ASSIST Sheffield is currently the only Sheffield charity focused on destitution among asylum seekers. We help by providing accommodation, advice and other support to those in most need or distress.

Description

ASSIST is totally reliant on its volunteers, and is organised through a variety of teams. These teams work to:

  • Provide accommodation, food and support for asylum seekers in Sheffield who are in conditions of need, hardship or distress
  • Advance the education of the public, and other statutory and voluntary organisations, in order to assist the inclusion of asylum seekers into the wider community
  • Raise awareness about the plight of asylum seekers in our city
