Every December, Union Settlement collects gifts for children ages 2-12 in our Early Childhood Education, Youth Services and Mental Health programs as part of our annual Holiday Gift Drive. Last year we received over 1,500 gifts and we plan on receiving more donations this year since our program's numbers have grown!
On Wednesday, Dec. 20th, we need a small group of volunteers to help us wrap almost 200 gifts for the children in our Youth Services program. Gifts range from books and puzzles to Legos and STEM toys. If you're interested in helping our staff, please email volunteers@unionsettlement.org with the subject line "Holiday Wrapping Volunteer".

Mission Statement
Union Settlement is an on-the-ground resource for East Harlem residents of all ages, and a passionate advocate for the needs of underserved communities. Since opening our doors in 1895, we have brought education, wellness and community-building programs to our neighborhood, empowering New Yorkers with opportunities to better their lives. By helping our neighbors realize their goals, we build the vitality and success of East Harlem.
Description
Founded more than a century ago, the Settlement has built a strong tradition of responsiveness to community need - developing child health stations early in the century, advocating for equal opportunity in sanitation, public housing and education from its inception. During the Great Depression, the Settlement provided food and employment and hope to many destitute families, preparing them for a better future. The Settlement has grown to become one of the largest human service agencies in East Harlem, serving more than 12,000 individuals on a daily basis out of 16 community locations with essential services including child care, mental health, education, care for the elderly, HIV/Aids services, adult education and much more.
