Background
Furry Friends Refuge is a non[profit humane organization serving the animals of West Des Moines, Urbandale, Clive, and Windsor Heights. Furry Friends is a 501(c)3 tax-deductible organization and has created the first no-kill community in the Des Moines metro area. Our adoption centers are located at 1211 Grand Ave. in West Des Moines and 1723 Grand Ave. in Des Moines

Summary

The Dog Care Volunteer is responsible for providing a standard of care set by the shelter, which will provide; a clean living environment, fresh food, clean water, and socialization for the dogs within the Adoptions Building.

Responsibilities

• Provide Fresh Food and Water
• Let the dog out in the courtyard
• Sweep and Mop each area
• Clean Surfaces in kennels; walls, beds, etc..
• Returning or refilling cleaning materials and notifying Staff if cleaning materials are low
• Provide enrichment feeding materials as needed
• Be able to recognize and follow instructions for care for animals in the adoptions building using color coded collars.

Qualifications

• Must be dependable
• Previous Dog Behavior experience preferred but not required
• Support the mission and be an ally to the no kill community
• Will need to go through In-Shelter Training (Training Provided)

Support Provided

• An in depth orientation of the mission and the services Furry Friends Refuge provides to the community
• Training in Dog Care
• Volunteer Coordinator will check in appropriately to make sure the volunteer feels confident in their role
  

Expected Hours of Work
This position requires 2-3 hours per shift. A minimum of 4 shifts are required monthly. The volunteer will schedule their time with a Monthly Sign-up sent by the Volunteer Coordinator.
