Volunteer Clean Up Event at New Harlem Arts Center

Cleaning isn’t just about getting rid of dirt and mess - it is the start of new possibilities. Join Clorox and Thrive Collective as we use the power of clean to make a difference in our community.

We need volunteers to help clean and transform a vacant space into a vibrant center for arts and mentoring programs serving local Harlem youth as part of a new Youth Opportunity Hub. Volunteers can sign up for two-hour time slots, during which they will clear out rooms, deep clean, paint, build furniture and more.

We encourage families to come experience the power of clean together, and will have dedicated activities for volunteers of all ages. This is more than a clean-up event. It’s an opportunity to teach children about the importance of empathy, to make connections to your community and to unlock new possibilities for yourself and for others.

Please dress in layers and wear closed-toed shoes. Don’t forget to bring water and a snack, if desired.

About Thrive Collective

Thrive Collective creates hope and opportunity through arts and mentoring in public schools, mobilizing students, parents, artists, and community stakeholders to partner with schools for transformational change. Thrive functions both as a matchmaker and direct service provider of arts and mentoring programs that cultivate the character and competencies necessary for students to thrive in today’s world. The core programs - Murals, Music, Media, and Mentoring - provide quality arts education and committed adult mentors in predominantly low-income communities throughout New York City.

About the Youth Opportunity Hub

Community Connections for Youth is creating a new Youth Opportunity Hub in West and Central Harlem. The Youth Opportunity Hubs are funded by a $45.9 million grant by the Manhattan District Attorney's Office’s Criminal Justice Investment Initiative (CJII) as part of an ambitious effort to invest resources into communities with historically high rates of youth delinquency and incarceration.

The Youth Opportunity Hubs investment will create vibrant youth centers that provide comprehensive and coordinated services and opportunities, drawing upon young people’s strengths and addressing multiple risk factors and needs to prevent youth from becoming involved in the criminal justice system.

Community Connections for Youth is partnering with several Harlem-based grassroots organizations to provide a host of services including, but not limited to, employment assistance, intensive mentoring, arts and recreation, trauma-specific services, legal advocacy, and health education to residents of Central and West Harlem.
