We are looking for a Concord resident who understands how a rail trail transforms a community and is willing to help make this trail a reality in Concord. You would be stepping into a position that is poised for success. Friends of the Concord - Lake Sunapee Rail Trail has introduced the trail concept to city staff (Planning, Engineering, General Services), the Conservation Commission, and City Council members in Wards 1, 2, 3, 4. We have also talked with several landowners along the route with encouraging results. There is activity taking place now that Concord residents will be able to walk on before long.
We are looking for someone who could be with us for 2-3 years. What's involved? Our process involves getting permission from landowners to build trail across their land. Then we obtain any necessary permits, raise the money to build and finally get the section of trail down on the ground. We are working already on all aspects of this. But your ability to attend city meetings as a resident brings an aspect of local support that adds value. Any experience you have with conservation, recreation, planning, transportation, public speaking, being an agent for change - is all helpful. Being a careful listener is a strong asset. Believing in the possibility of the trail is the strongest asset you can bring to this cause. Each trail segment adds value to the community and creates demand for more trail. There is nothing like seeing people walk, bike, snowshoe, x-c ski on a trail you have made happen.
