ORGANIZATION: Royal Society of Sculptors

Learning Volunteer

Learning at the RBS is expanding! As the oldest and largest organisation dedicated to sculpture in the UK, learning has always been central to our aims at the Society, and now even more so! Our Learning Volunteers are hands-on members of our team who encourage children at our exhibition-themed holiday workshops and assist with special one-off events.

What’s involved?
At the heart of the RBS learning programme are the convictions that through art people enrich their lives and that sculpture is a powerful agent for opening minds, releasing creativity and contributing to learning skills. Learning, as a core function of the Society, enables all sections of the community to make connections with the RBS building, membership, archive and exhibitions.
Learning Volunteers can get involved in a variety of areas:

  • Prepare workshop materials
  • Assist with learning administration including working on listing educational activities and updating our education contacts databases
  • Set-up and pack down workshop spaces
  • Support the lead artist in the delivery of activities
  • Register children on arrival and departure of events
  • Report any issues that arise during sessions to designated staff
  • Provide a friendly welcome to visitors as they enter the RBS
  • Adhere to top customer service standards ensuring all those who participate in RBS learning activities have a fantastic experience
  • Approach the public to get feedback about their experience

Mission Statement

The Royal Society of Sculptors is an artist led, membership organisation. We support and connect sculptors throughout their careers and lead the conversation about sculpture today through exhibitions and events for all.

Description

The Society was created more than 100 years ago to champion contemporary sculpture and the artists who create it. Today we welcome everyone interested in exploring this art form and its many possibilities.

We are based in London’s South Kensington, a few minutes’ walk from its great museums, in a beautiful listed building called Dora House. Come and join in the conversation, through exhibitions, artists’ talks and creative workshops . We invite you to view the world from a different perspective, to dig deep into the practice of individual sculptors and to challenge the way you think.
