  • 1 person is interested

Read Write Discover organizes free summer reading programs in San Francisco, San Jose, Milpitas and Fremont. High school students volunteer as tutors and are matched with youth from grades K-8. Our programs target students who are struggling in reading and writing and those without supplemental resources.

Directors help manage a subset of summer literacy programs in libraries around the Bay Area and oversee the high school coordinators who organize RWD programs at each library.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining constant communication and coordinating logistics, via email or phone, with 2-3 assigned libraries
  • Finding high school students to act as volunteer coordinators (for example: publicity, emailing schools, interviewing potential applicants, and helping to train them)
  • Acting as a mentor to these high school students to build and strengthen their leadership abilities, while also maintaining community relations to the libraries
  • Following up with coordinators to ensure the site is running smoothly
  • Attending online meetings every 2 weeks with other directors
