ORGANIZATION: RSVP of San Mateo & Northern Santa Clara Counties

Veterans Connect @ the Library - Community Outreach Specialist

Time Commitment: Determined by opportunity in the community and on an as-needed basis. A six-month time commitment is requested.

Engage with the Veteran community and at the library through public speaking and creating and promoting programs and events on topics that appeal to Veterans, their family members, and the public.

Duties include participating in Veteran events and programs at the library and in he community, attending and participating in a Veteran service meetings and/or advisory groups to promote the library's Veteran Resource Center, recruiting new volunteers and Veterans from the community to volunteer at the library's Veteran Resource Center.

Perform expectations: interest in helping and serving Veterans and their families, ability to maintain confidentiality and respect personal boundaries, prompt and responsible attendance. Basic computer and Internet skills are required; smartphone/device experience helpful.

Qualifications: applicant must successfully complete all training for the position (provided).

Orientation: full training will be provided to all volunteers.

Transportation: We are located one mile from the SSF BART station and 1-2 blocks from busses. The free South City Shuttle stops in front on the library and runs between SSF downtown and BART. Free parking is provided in our lot and there are bike racks available.

RSVP is administered by the Corporation for National & Community Service, the federal agency that supports service and volunteering programs to improve lives, strengthen communities and foster civic engagement. We serve all of San Mateo County and the cities of Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Mountain View. Palo Alto, Los Altos and Los Altos Hills in Santa Clara County.

MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN YOUR COMMUNITY!

RSVP provides opportunities for people 55 and over to make a difference in their community through volunteer service. RSVP volunteers contribute anywhere from a few to over forty hours a week, serving through schools, day care centers, police departments, hospitals and other nonprofit and public organizations to help meet critical community needs. RSVP offers maximum flexibility and choice to its volunteers. RSVP matches the personal interests and skills of older Americans with opportunities to help solve community problems and offers supplemental insurance while on duty, pre-service orientation, and on-the-job training from the agency or organization where volunteers are placed.
