Wildfires are devastating communities across California, causing more than 300,000 people to evacuate their homes and threatening many more. The Camp Fire in Northern California -- one of three blazing across the state -- is the most destructive in state history. We want to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you find access to shelter. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know the most effective ways to contribute.
Do you have a doggy who is certified to offer pet therapy or even just a pooch who is mellow and loves people? Do you want to make a difference in your community or use your talents and gifts to benefit others? Embrace Hospice needs you! Come help support our hospice patients.
As a pet therapy volunteer, you can:
1. Provide a much-needed doggy presence to people who need it.
Many of our patients love dogs but don't have the benefit of getting to spend time with them anymore, now that they live in an assisted living or nursing facility. By visiting them with a mellow pup, you're providing them with so much--comfort, happiness, the ease of animal companionship. You'll be greatly enriching their lives.
2. Share your stories. Listen to theirs.
Just be a friend and a friendly presence. Play music or get some fresh air outside together. A visit can be so simple but offer so much to our patients.
3. Support the families of hospice patients.
All you need to do is visit with the patient. This offers family members the chance to have family time, run errands, or do whatever they don't have the time to do otherwise.
We'll happily work with you to fit whatever time you can give into your schedule.
"Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart." --Elizabeth Andrew
