We're looking for people to go to businesses and residences to handout Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and My Free Taxes promotional material. The more we can get the word out, the more we can help Pickens County residents improve their finances with these programs.
This past tax season, the VITA program brought $1.3 million in tax refunds back to Pickens County. The average household income of those we served was $19,000, and the average return per person was $900. Once you factor in a few hundred dollars it costs to prepare taxes at a retail chain, the financial impact was about $1,000 person.
