Celebrating 10 years

The National Language Service Corps is seeking individuals fluent in English and Bengali to become its members. There is no membership fee to join and all members are volunteers compensated with a stipend. If there is a short-term need within a community or federal agency, we offer assignments to members based on their availability and interest. To become a member:

* You must be proficient in English as well as Bengali
* You must be at least 18 years old.
* If you are a male, you must have registered for Selective Service.
* You must be a U.S. citizen.

The mission of the NLSC is to provide and maintain a readily available civilian corps of certified individuals in languages determined to be important to the security and welfare of the nation.

Description

The National Language Service Corps (NLSC) is a group of individuals united by the fundamental belief that language has a tremendous impact on who we are; who we can be; and what we can do together. If language can give us the power to communicate with and understand one another, the National Language Service Corps will help to harness that power to gain a deeper understanding of all countries, cultures, and peoples and, in so doing, make the United States and the world safer, more just, and more prosperous.
