ORGANIZATION: PITTSBURGH CENTER FOR CREATIVE REUSE

In collaboration with the Creative Education Team, the Program Administration intern will help to develop and maintain the administrative systems of our Creative Education Programs. All Creative Education interns assist with hands-on programs on an as-needed basis. Occasional weekend availability required for any internship period. For summer internships, must be available to assist with the Three Rivers Arts Festival.

Learning Opportunities:

o Develop skills in organization, communication, and process improvement

o Learn about nonprofit operations

o Practice creative problem solving

o Gain experience with educational program design, facilitation, and evaluation

o Collaborate with a playful, creative, hard-working team

o Connect with local artists, educators, and nonprofit leaders

o Apply your knowledge in the service of a growing organization

Responsibilities:

o Program Coordination & Development

o Assist with the design, planning and preparation of creative reuse education activities

o Assist with the organization and maintenance of supplies, materials, and tools for education programs, and with the continuous improvement of storage and materials management systems.

o Develop and maintain program information systems, including contact emails, electronic records, and physical files.

o Assist with communications, social media, marketing, and design when needed.

o Assist with program evaluation, including the creation, collection, and collation of evaluation materials

o Assist with process improvement, communication, and best practices

o Compile research and information to support the Creative Education program needs and growth

o Assist with data management and physical filing

o Serve as an ambassador for Creative Reuse, both in the shop and at outreach events

o Assist with planning and preparation for special projects and outreach events

o Assist with data entry and administrative tasks as needed

o Assist with keeping communal areas tidy (kitchen, bathrooms, warehouse, etc.)

For Specific Events:

o Set up and/or break down creative activities at events

o Welcome and interact with event participants of all ages

o Maintain a clean, attractive, and well-organized workspace

o Create signage, displays, and project prototypes

o Prevent injury and accidents

o Help inspire and assist participants

o Assist with program follow-up and evaluation

o Serve as an ambassador for Creative Reuse and answer questions about our history, mission, how to donate, and general shop and program information

Qualifications:

o Must enjoy working with children

o Must have state and federal clearances for working with children

o Creative problem solving abilities

o Excellent people skills

o Ability to work independently and follow-through on tasks

o Must be able to lift 30 pounds

o Passion for the environment, art, education, and community engagement

o Interest in nonprofit management and communication

o Flexibility and patience with changing priorities

o Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills

o Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with common social media platforms

o Willingness to pitch in on both complex and menial tasks as needed

o Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

o Ability to work independently

o Ability to bring own laptop preferred

o Excellent completion skills: can thoroughly finish a project and know how to wrap up all loose ends

Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse is a non-profit that inspires creativity, conservation, and community engagement through reuse.

Description

The Creative Reuse retail store is like an I Spy book in real life! A thrift and craft store in one, we have tons of donated materials thanks to the individuals and businesses in our community. If you’re looking for affordable art and craft supplies, fabric, yarn, sewing notions, office supplies, paper, business and industrial discards and surplus, or vintage curiosities to incorporate into your creative project, you’ll love our shop. We’re open every day from 11 am to 6 pm!

Pittsburgh is on its way to becoming a reuse-centered city, and our shop is a large part of this movement. In 2016 alone, Creative Reuse diverted 41 tons of usable materials from the landfill!
