The Governing Council of NMIS is seeking volunteer members to join its team. The Governing Council (GC) serves as the governing board of the school, responsible for oversight of the school and its fiscal responsibility. To this end, the GC hires a Head of School, who reports directly to the GC on the school’s operation.

The ideal GC member is someone who wants to improve the overall quality of New Mexico by overseeing a school that seeks to be an agent of positive change to our state. To this end, the GC seeks professionals with diverse backgrounds to foster effective and responsible governance of the school. Specifically, the GC is looking for members that are realtors, business professionals, teachers, managers, school administrators, architects, lawyers, community leaders, accountants, and university professionals.

Description

New Mexico International School (NMIS) is a K-8 authorized public charter school in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It is one of the top schools in the state, and is a popular school of choice for the Albuquerque community. It offers dual language instruction in English and Spanish to all students, and adds a third language, Arabic, starting in 4 th grade. It also promotes inquiry-based learning by offering the IB’s Primary Years Programme in grades K-5. NMIS produces extremely successful students who will go on to be multilingual, independent and motivated students and professionals in New Mexico.
