Everybody Wins! Iowa urgently needs volunteer reading mentors to work with children struggling to read at grade level in Central Iowa: Des Moines, Ankeny, West Des Moines, Norwalk, Perry, Pella and Indianola. Mentors meet one-to-one with a k-5th grade student at their schools or at community partner sites once a week for read aloud experiences designed to build both their confidence and their reading ability. A child who can't read at grade level often carries a silent burden of shame and helplessness, making them four times more likely to drop out of high school and leaves them facing a lifetime of low wages, poorer health, and increased risk of social isolation. But you can help us change all that with just about an hour of your time each week. Click the I want to help! button above and we'll tell you how!
