Love Your Heart 2018- Medical and Non Medical Volunteers Needed To Do Free Blood Pressure Screenings

Hello Volunteers,

My name is Andrew Gonzalez, Volunteer Coordinafor for Champions for Health (formerly the San Diego County Medical Society Foundation). We are a nonprofit in San Diego that is dedicated to ensuring San Diegans have access to health care and the only local organization that provides pro-bono specialty care to uninsured adults living below the poverty level. We partner with Live Well San Diego for their annual Love Your Heart (LYH) event on February 14th 2018. This event partners with numerous organizations to provide free blood pressure screenings in a single day so San Diegans can "know their numbers".

During Love Your Heart 2017, approximately 20,062 screenings were provided at 149 sites across San Diego. It was found that 57% of this year’s participants had elevated blood pressure. Knowing your numbers is particularly pertinent given that hypertension (elevated blood pressure) contributes to heart attack, stroke and other major comorbidities. Heart disease and stroke are the second and third leading causes of death in San Diego! Love Your Heart Day emphasizes health education in order to improve heart health, so that participants can make positive changes to prevent these diseases.

Who are we looking for:

Medical Volunteers: Medical volunteers are individuals who able to perform and record blood pressure screenings at a site for 2 to 4 hours. Electronic monitors will be available at most locations.

Health Promoters: Health promoters are volunteers who support the medical volunteers and main focus is to help bring in the crowd. Great opportunity for those that are pre-med, public health oriented, or have a passion to create a healthier community.
