The Women's Building. Empower. Enrich. Engage.

The Women’s Building (TWB) is a women-led community space that advocates self-determination, gender equality, and social justice. We provide services and programs to empower women, house a variety of non-profit organizations, and have meeting spaces for rent.

The Tax Program at The Women’s Building assists low-income families complete their civic duty as tax payers. Tax season can be a stressful time for many people, as they round up tax documents and receipts, and make sense of confusing tax forms. Those of us who can afford it may pay for tax software that walks us through the process, or we may pay a tax preparer to file on our behalf. But the cost for paid preparers can be tremendous, and tax software varies widely in price. For low-income families who may not be able to afford these services, tax time can be a significant source of stress, and securing a full refund is not assured. With the partnership of EKS United Way Bay Area, our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is able to alleviate the financial and emotional burden that can be associated with tax season.
