Annie’s Hope - The Bereavement Center for Kids exists to provide comprehensive support services to children, teens and their families who are grieving the death of someone significant. One way we support grieving kids and teens is through support groups that are facilitated in schools all throughout the St. Louis area. Each session is tailored to the group’s developmental level and the struggles the members are encountering. No two group sessions are identical. Topics that may be discussed could include coping skills, feelings, memories, change, communication skills, grief rituals, or other topics that fit the needs of the kids.
We are looking for volunteers to help facilitate these groups and work directly with the kids we are supporting. Annie’s Hope will provide all necessary training for interested volunteers. Groups meet once a week for six consecutive weeks and are facilitated by staff and trained volunteers. Each meeting is typically 45 - 60 minutes during the school day. All groups will be scheduled during the week, Monday - Friday, at various times of day. If you have any daytime availability and are interested in this opportunity, we would love to hear from you and can work with your schedule.

Description
We offer facilitated support programs that improve the mental health and physical well-being of grieving children throughout the St. Louis region. Our support services combat school failure, depression and risk-taking behaviors by normalizing the grieving process, providing a forum for exploring grief without judgment, connecting grievers with peers who understand their pain and introducing positive coping strategies. Programs of Annie’s Hope are offered to grieving children ages 3 to 18. Services include (1) Family Support Groups; (2) School Support and Education (three components: in-school support groups, professional education and crisis intervention); (3) Camp Courage and Camp Courage - Teens (overnight camps for grieving children and teens); (4) Horizons (a family-centered, home-based anticipatory grief program); (5) weekend teen retreats; (6) speaker's institute; (7) family social events; (8) community resource library; (9) grief referral service; and (10) an annual Hope & Healing Gathering.
