Annie’s Hope - The Bereavement Center for Kids hosts Family Support Groups that welcome children, teens, and adults who are grieving deaths. Groups meet one night a week for eight weeks and are facilitated by trained volunteers. Annie’s Hope will provide all necessary training. The groups meet from 6:30 - 8:00pm with typical volunteer time being from 6:00 - 9:00pm. All newer volunteers will be paired with an experienced volunteer to support them in their facilitation role.
At each session, the children and teens are divided into several groups by their age while the adults meet in their own group. Each session is tailored to the group’s developmental level and the struggles the members are encountering. No two group sessions are identical and there will be at least one Family Night during the eight weeks. Topics that may be discussed could include coping skills, feelings, memories, change, communication skills, grief rituals, or other topics that fit the needs of the families.
Dates of all 2020 upcoming Family Support Group sessions are listed below. It takes 18 volunteers to run each full session. Volunteer commitment would be to one (or more) groups of dates, not ALL dates below.
Wednesdays: April 1 - May 20
Tuesdays: July 7 - Sept 1
Wednesdays: Sept 9 - Nov 4
Tuesdays: Oct 6 - Nov 24

Mission Statement
Annie's Hope provides comprehensive support services for children, teens and their families who are grieving a death.
Description
We offer facilitated support programs that improve the mental health and physical well-being of grieving children throughout the St. Louis region. Our support services combat school failure, depression and risk-taking behaviors by normalizing the grieving process, providing a forum for exploring grief without judgment, connecting grievers with peers who understand their pain and introducing positive coping strategies. Programs of Annie’s Hope are offered to grieving children ages 3 to 18. Services include (1) Family Support Groups; (2) School Support and Education (three components: in-school support groups, professional education and crisis intervention); (3) Camp Courage and Camp Courage - Teens (overnight camps for grieving children and teens); (4) Horizons (a family-centered, home-based anticipatory grief program); (5) weekend teen retreats; (6) speaker's institute; (7) family social events; (8) community resource library; (9) grief referral service; and (10) an annual Hope & Healing Gathering.
