Are you tired of the violence in our community? Become A Volunteer and Let's Make Our Communities Safe Again...

Alternatives to Violence Project is an organizations that is working to reduce violence by teaching relationships, communication and a new approach to conflict resolution. AVP is a non profit, volunteer run international that conducts workshops in 26 prisons, as well as jails in the community and with adolescents. We are not teachers in a classroom, instead we are volunteers of the community that serve as a team, that brings fun, energy and our own experience. AVP is a highly educational, interactive 18 hour workshop. Below are comments participants have made after taking a workshop.

"After taking this workshop I realize I can change".
"I learned not to resort to violence, I can stay calm".
"When you bring the elements of play and laughter it literally breaks down walls".
"I will making changes in the way I talk to my friends and family. I will be conscious of my 1st reaction to control things".
"Thank you for the work you do".

Many participants go on to become volunteer facilitators. You too can become a volunteer facilitator and be a part of the Solution with Alternatives to Violence Project.

Description

I. Purpose and Methods of AVP Program

A. The primary purpose of AVP groups is to offer individual tools for personal empowerment, enabling them to live their lives with dignity and self-respect. AVP facilitators serve the community by leading workshops with the goal of enhancing individual skills for peaceful reduction of conflict.

B. Our method is experiential; we use a minimum of lecture. We believe that people have within themselves answers to their questions and problems. We encourage each other to search for solutions within ourselves, drawing on our own experiences and those of our communities.

C. Workshops endeavor to break down the barriers that prevent people from revealing their inner selves, thus enabling them to form friendships with other individuals, and to build a community.

AVP/California does not discriminate in any of its policies, appointments or other activities on account of race, sex, sexual orientation, age or religious conviction. AVP/California does not engage in political action or lobbying and does not promote any specific political view as an organization.
