Hands-On Medical Volunteer - Antigua, Guatemala

About 50% of the population of Guatemala lives in rural areas where poverty is deeply rooted. About 70% of those who live in the countryside live below the poverty line. Poverty affects everyone in these areas; indigenous communities, families, and young people.

In the rural villages of Guatemala, thousands of people are suffering from malnutrition and subsequent diseases. They often cannot afford nutritious and healthy food or treatment for their aliments. In impoverished villages, preventable disease and death is a regular occurance because the government does not have enough healthcare aid programs to assist them. It is urgent and important that programs are put into place to help these impoverished communities.

To tackle this problem, Global Crossroad and Jose’s Hands are planning a joint international Hands-On Medical camp made available to people living near Antigua, Guatemala.

Joining this program provides willing volunteers with invaluable Hands-On experience and the chance to share their skills and compassion with those who will really appreciate it. Everyone involved will find this program changing their life in many positive ways.

About The Medical Camp in Guatemala

The Hands-On Medical Camp in Guatemala aims to offer basic medical and health care services to impoverished villagers. Our medical camp will be based in the rural villages near the city of Antigua. The mobile medical camp relocates according to the needs of the poorest locals in the rural community. It may take place in schools, orphanages, social clubs, or health centers. Services are provided free of charge and is accessible to anyone in need.

A local doctor will lead the camp as The Medical Team leader. They’ll supervise, guide, inform volunteers about the local health issues, delegate tasks, allocate patients, advise, and intervene in case of communication problems.

While the camp focuses on primary care, specialized doctors & professionals can use their expertise in treating or advising patients, as needed.

  • Prescribe medication
  • Check ups
  • Stitch and dress wounds
