The Canadian Cancer Society is a national community based organization of volunteers whose mission is the eradication of cancer and the enhancement of quality of life of people living with cancer.

The Daffodil Dash is your chance to help create a world where no one fears cancer. When you, your family, friends and colleagues come together with Canadians in communities across the country for this powerful event, you not only help save more lives through ground-breaking cancer research but also support those living with cancer today.

The Tri Cities Daffodil Dash will take place on Sunday, 29 April, 2018

The Canadian Cancer Society is currently seeking an engaging, passionate Marketing and Media Committee Member for the 2018 Daffodil Dash.

Assisting in the marketing and promotion of our annual Daffodil Dash is an excellent way to not only get involved and support the work of the Canadian Cancer Society, you as well have the opportunity to further develop your own professional network and enhance your marketing and communication, leadership, and strategy development skills.

We are looking for bright ideas, an excellent background in marketing, social media, campaign promotion, and a passion for supporting the work being done at the Canadian Cancer Society.

  • Professional development particularly in marketing, event promotion, and team building
  • Engagement with an exciting and motivated committee and build an event that reflects the interests of your community
  • Contributing to the organization’s vision of creating a world where no Canadian fears cancer
  • Expanding your professional and personal network
  • A sense of accomplishment and involvement upon seeing your committee and your community come together


  • Help in developing content including stories, updates, and CCS news to be shared on social media channels and in update emails.
  • Monitor and action social media account activity
  • Assist in creating and maintaining a work back schedule and promotion timeline.
  • Develop clear goals for yourself and communicate progress on an ongoing basis
  • Participate in Volunteer Orientation and Project Debrief


  • Success in a marketing and communication or promotion role including experience in managing social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat)
  • Experience working on a planning committee, particularly in navigating conflicting priorities and being able to provide direction for the marketing aspect of the event/campaign
  • Experience in volunteerism, personal or professional fundraising, sales, and/or communications, and event execution
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Volunteers must be at least 19 years of age for this position due to the scope of the role and responsibilities.


  • Volunteer Handbook: provided by the Volunteer Engagement team
  • Role-specific training: with the addition of online resources available for review
  • Regular meetings with the Staff Partner and experienced Committee Leads


  • 1-3 hours/week with a higher level of commitment from February to April
  • Regular attendance at monthly committee meetings
  • Attendance at local community events is necessary as well as participation in set-up, logistics and take-down of the event
  • Ability to respond to emails/requests within a reasonable timeframe (12 - 24 hours)
