ORGANIZATION: National MS Society Mid America

The Development Intern will primarily assist the Bike MS Manager in the planning, coordinating, and execution of the National MS Society's annual fundraising gala, Dinner of Champions. The Development Intern will work on a variety of projects that will help develop their fundraising, event planning and marketing skills. The intern will have the opportunity to obtain service learning hours, college credit, and/or a recommendation letter, pending satisfactory performance.

Position at Glance

Field of Study: Marketing, Communications, Event Planning, Nonprofit Management or other related fields

Year in School: Available to all students

Time Commitment: Duration 16-20 Weeks, Hours per week: 10-15 hours, Hours: Anytime Monday-Friday between the hours of 9 AM and 4:30 PM

Minimum Experience/Skills

  • Excellent customer service skills; friendly demeanor on the phone and in person
  • Good organizational skills; detail-oriented; and able to follow through on projects on time
  • Results oriented: commitment to raising funds to reach the established goals

Technical/Other requirements
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Ability to sit in front of computer for a length of time
  • Ability to use phone equipment for a length of time
  • Available to attend/work Dinner of Champions on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 from 5:30-8:30 pm
  • A background check is required at no cost to the intern

Description

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society funds more MS research, offers more services to people with MS, provides more professional education programs and advances more MS advocacy efforts than any other MS organization in the world. Through its home office and fifty-state network of chapters, the National MS Society provides assistance to over a million people annually in its continuing mission to end the devastating effects of multiple sclerosis. The Mid America Chapter serves 159 counties in Kansas and Missouri.

Seeking out and engaging volunteers to the MS cause is at the very core of our business. Each year the Society organizes a series of community events that provide many opportunities for the enthusiastic volunteer. The Society offers two key fundraising activities: Bike MS, and Walk MS Walk. The Society also engages volunteers to help influence law-makers at the federal, state and municipal levels toward legislation important to people with MS. The Society is looking for passionate volunteers with expertise in areas such as: marketing communications, public relations, corporate and donor development, medical, legal, administrative and organizational expertise.
