Do you like working with animals? This might be for you! We're looking for a few good volunteers to help care for our chickens this winter. Chickens are fascinating and fun animals! Each has her own little personality!

The volunteering is inside the chicken coop (not outdoors) so no need to bundle up! Duties include cleaning the coop floor, filling food and water, preparing and distributing chicken toys and socializing the chickens by holding and petting them. Chicken care is active work and sometimes requires lifting, climbing and stooping.

Volunteers are asked to commit to one, two hour shift a week. through March. Wed-Sat shifts start at 9am. Mon and Tues shifts start at 3:30pm. Sunday shifts start at 1pm. All volunteers will have the opportunity in the spring to transition to the 'Hen Helpers' program if they would like! Hen Helpers not only care for chickens but also gather and package eggs for sale at the farmers' market!

Historic Wagner Farm is one of the last working dairy farms in Cook County and is open to the public for recreation and learning. The farm provides a unique opportunity for families to learn about our farming heritage and experience first hand "the way things used to be."

In addition to the cows in the pasture, Wagner Farm has chickens, draft horses, and pigs as well as a restored farmhouse and barn and the award-winning Wagner Farm Heritage Center. The Heritage Center contains interactive exhibits where you can learn about farming from the early 20th century through the present, "shop through history" at our 1930s Grocery Store or purchase a souvenir of your visit from our Museum Store.
