Historic Dumfries Virginia, Inc. is a small non-profit that operates the Weems-Botts Museum in Dumfries, Virginia - Virginia's oldest continually-chartered town. Our mission is to preserve and promote the historical heritage of Dumfries. Dumfries' is a hidden historical gem in northern Virginia. The town was once a bustling colonial port rivaling New York, Philadelphia, and Boston (in terms of tonnage) prior to the Revolutionary War. Our budget and staff capacity is very limited and we could really use the skills of a few handy men and women to complete maintenance projects around the property, which includes the historic house, a park with restrooms, pavilion, and bandstand, and a museum annex/visitor welcome area.
Examples of work to be done at our property include:
- Hanging signage
- Repairing accordion closet doors
- Painting steps/porches
- Electrical outlet repairs
- Cabinetry repairs
- Servicing motion sensor lights
Supplies provided by the organization.
We can also use help from volunteers who would like to be on the housekeeping or gardening crews.
