YWCA Glendale’s Child Advocate is looking for an assistant on Monday’s from 9:50 AM- 11:30 AM

The main responsibilities and expectations are as follows :

*Come in on Monday from 9:50 -11:30 AM.

* Must be consistent and on time. (remaining consistent will help the children develop trust and build healthy relationships) If you cannot commit to coming in each Monday (aside from Monday’s falling on Holidays) please do not apply.

*Support and listen openly to what the child has to say (Support and listening to each child’s concerns and needs will help develop rapport between child/volunteer /child advocate)

*Have patience with children ranging from 7 months -8 years old. (Patience is a very important action in the children’s program , Distress is something children pick up on very easily and may act out, misbehave or mimic the behavior if volunteer is constantly in a state of distress)

*Help with feeding children ( Children are fed a snack and drink every time they enter the center)

*Can redirect & handle children if they see a child is misbehaving /acting out

*Take initiative if I am busy taking care of other children

*Help children with arts & crafts

Violence against women can take many forms, including domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence and stalking. These crimes impact millions of individuals and families in every community in our nation. YWCAs around the country provide a variety of services and programs to address violence against women, ranging from emergency shelters, support groups and crisis hotlines.

YWCA Glendale offers:

  • A crisis hotline (888-999-7511) serving an area of 1.1 million people offering counseling, community referral and access to shelter services.
  • A Domestic Violence Service Center that offers counseling, resources, referrals and childcare. The Legal Department represents women in family courts and immigration matters.
  • The Sunrise Village Emergency Shelter Program provides a 45-day safe-haven for women and children. Services include meals, housing, counseling and social services; a children’s counseling program, legal advocacy, case management, housing assistance, employment, education, healthcare and childcare.
  • Programs for children who have suffered from domestic violence.
