ORGANIZATION: RSVP of North Central Iowa

Reading Buddies is an elementary school literacy program that addresses the needs of developing readers. Volunteers age 55 and older help students with letter and sight word identification, pronunciation, as well as with fluency and comprehension skills. One-on-one attention from a volunteer helps increase the student’s reading skills and enjoyment of reading.

Description

RSVP, or Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, is part of a national network of programs called Senior Corps with the Corporation for National & Community Service. Locally, RSVP of North Central Iowa is sponsored by North Iowa Area Community College. RSVP recruits adults 55 and older to use their skills, talents, and life experience to help meet community needs through volunteer service.
