Helping Others through The Salvation Army of West Chester

Cause Areas

It's flexible! We'll work with your schedule.

101 East Market StreetWest Chester, PA 19380

We offer several volunteer opportunities at The Salvation Army of West Chester. During the Christmas season (Black Friday through Christmas Eve) we look for bell ringers at our red kettles. Shifts are available for 2-6 hours at a time in the West Chester/Exton area.

Each fall we take applications for the Christmas Adopt-A-Child program. Volunteers commit approximately $50-75 for each child they adopt to purchase 3-5 gifts from their wish list. Gifts are brought to The Salvation Army the first week in December and we distribute them to the parents. this is a great opportunity for an individual, a family or even an office. We have matched adopters to ober 300 children this year.

Our Community Meal Program served over 13,000 meals this year and we are always looking for individuals or groups to prepare and serve a meal. Weekdays are our most frequent openings, and the commitment, in addition to preparing a meal for 35, is 4:30-6:00pm to serve it at our 101 East Market Street location.

Our Manna from Heaven Pantry receives an abundance of donations during the holiday season in addition to three regular food drives annually (May, October and November). Weekdays throughout the year and on the weekend of each food drive, we ask volunteers to help count, sort and box donated food items and also help us to keep the pantry organized. (2-6 hours)

On several holidays we make a meal for the Community Meal Program (Thanksgiving Breakfast, Christmas Eve Luncheon and Easter Breakfast). Volunteers are asked to bring a dish to feed 10-20 and help serve the potluck-style meal on the holiday. (2-3 hours)

Groups are encouraged to contact us for small, targeted food drives and or maintenance projects (i.e. painting an office, re-organizing a storage area or minor landscaping projects) throughout the year. We try to accommodate one-day and/or ongoing efforts depending on the group's availability. (2-8 hours)
