The 2018 hurricane season has been extraordinarily active in parts of the U.S., with Hurricane Florence currently impacting millions in the Carolinas. As this natural disaster unfolds, the staff here at VolunteerMatch is doing its part to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you are prepared and safe. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know about the most effective ways to contribute.
Our Community Meal Program served over 13,000 meals this year and we are always looking for individuals or groups to prepare and serve a meal. Weekdays are our most frequent openings, and the commitment, in addition to preparing a meal for 35, is 4:30-6:00pm to serve it at our 101 East Market Street location.
Our Manna from Heaven Pantry receives many walk-in donations in addition to three regular food drives annually (May, October and November). Weekdays throughout the year and on the weekend of each food drive, we ask volunteers to help count, sort and box donated food items and also help us to keep the pantry organized. (2-6 hours)
Groups are encouraged to contact us for small, targeted food drives and or maintenance projects (i.e. painting an office, re-organizing a storage area or minor landscaping projects) throughout the year. We try to accommodate one-day and/or ongoing efforts depending on the group's availability. (2-8 hours)
