Program Coordinator

Swing for Kids is a Chicago-based, grassroots nonprofit whose mission is to build happy kids, successful schools, and stronger communities through Swing Dance. Founded in 2014 by a group of swing dancers and educators, Swing for Kids teaches pro-social skills like teamwork, empathy, and goal setting to school-aged kids throughout Chicago. Since its founding in 2014, Swing for Kids has served over 1,000 kids. The organization is primarily run by a group of passionate volunteer Board of Directors.

The Program Coordinator for Swing for Kids will act as the primary link between the organization and programming partners like schools, after school programs, community organizations, dance studios, parks districts, and other potential partners and handle all program scheduling and communication with partners and Swing for Kids instructors.

Role & Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and schedule all programs in collaboration with Swing for Kids Board and instructors
  • Coordinate program schedule and price with program partners
  • Update board each quarter on current and potential programming opportunities
  • With support from the Board, design, print, and distribute promotional flyers, permission slips, program surveys, etc.
  • With support from the Board, seek out new programming opportunities Maintain relationships with past program partners
  • General support and promotion of Swing for Kid’s mission, including sharing, promoting, and supporting fundraising events, as needed
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience (3+ years of similar work)
  • Passion for Swing for Kids’ mission and belief that all children deserve access to high quality arts education
  • Desire support services for under-resourced communities and schools in Chicago
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain working relationships with other employees, youth, outside agencies, potential partners, and the general public
  • Strong independent initiative, capacity to operate flexibly in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated networker and community organizer
  • Excellent organizational, oral and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with Chicago Public Schools
  • Computer skills, particularly Google Drive for Nonprofits and familiarity with electronic messaging app Slack
  • Some Spanish language skills (preferred)

Approximately 1-3 hours per week, Beginning immediately

Compensation -This is a great opportunity for a highly motivated individual to grow Swing for Kid’s program reach to create a salaried position in the future. Currently, this role pays a small stipend of $200 per quarter as well as percentage of program revenue (varies depending on depth of program per partner)
